Referral website, not the contractor. How it works

Appliance removal in Conroe means a crew disconnects, carries out and hauls away an old refrigerator, freezer, washer, dryer, stove or AC unit. To get a price, send a request with the form.

Conroe Junk Pros is a referral website, not a junk removal company. We send your request to one independent local junk removal company. You never pay us; companies we refer you to may pay us for referrals.

Pricing and scheduling come from that company. Ask for the price in writing, and ask how it handles refrigerant.

Appliances people usually need hauled

  • Refrigerators and freezers, including garage fridges and chest freezers. Heavy, awkward, and they hold refrigerant.
  • Washers and dryers. A washer has to be drained first, and gas dryers need the gas line capped by someone qualified.
  • Stoves, ovens and dishwashers, often during a kitchen remodel.
  • Window AC units and dehumidifiers. Small but they hold refrigerant too.
  • Water heaters. Must be drained and disconnected first. Gas units need the gas shut off and capped.
  • Microwaves, trash compactors and other small appliances, usually added to a larger load.

If you're replacing an appliance, ask the store whether it takes the old one at delivery. That can be the cheapest option.

What appliance removal costs

National guides checked in October 2026:

What Typical national range Source
One appliance, such as a refrigerator $109 to $244 average; $65 low, $570 high Thumbtack
One appliance $77.79 to $259 Homewyse (May 2026)
Major appliances $60 to $250 This Old House
Refrigerator or appliance $50 to $200 HireAHelper

HireAHelper lists refrigerant appliances among items that can carry an extra disposal fee. Basements, stairs, and a fridge that has to come through a tight kitchen raise the labor. If you have several appliances, or an appliance plus other junk, ask for a volume price. The junk removal cost guide has the full load-size table.

Refrigerant: why fridges and AC units are different

Refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioners hold refrigerant that has to be recovered before the appliance is scrapped or landfilled. Under U.S. EPA rules, the final person in the disposal chain, such as a scrap metal recycler or landfill owner, is responsible for making sure the refrigerant is recovered before final disposal.

That's why Conroe's bulk pickup has a rule for these items. The City of Conroe says appliances containing Freon must have it removed by a technician, with a certificate placed in a sealed plastic bag and taped to the front of the appliance. Without the certificate, Frontier won't collect it at the curb.

Before you book, ask the junk removal company whether it takes a fridge with the refrigerant still in it, where the appliance goes, and whether refrigerant recovery is included in the price.

Don't cut refrigerant lines or puncture the coils yourself to "empty" a fridge. EPA rules under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act prohibit intentionally venting refrigerant when disposing of refrigeration or AC equipment.

Other ways to get rid of an appliance in Conroe

City bulk pickup. Conroe residents get one scheduled bulk pickup a month through Frontier Waste Solutions, which took over city trash service on October 1, 2025. The city's bulk service includes appliances. Schedule at least two working days ahead with Frontier at 936-258-9035, by email, on its website or in its app. Refrigerant appliances need the certificate described above.

County drop-off. The Montgomery County Precinct 3 Residential Recycling Facility at 1122 Pruitt Road in Spring takes appliances for a fee of $10 to $50 per piece, under its schedule effective October 1, 2025. Montgomery County residents only, with proof of residency. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed 11:30 to 12:30.

Donate a working appliance. The Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County ReStore on Highway 242 sells donated appliances and offers free pickup of large donations, usually booked one to two weeks ahead. The ReStore tells buyers it can't check that every appliance works, so be honest about the condition when you donate.

Before the crew arrives

  • Empty it. Clear out food, shelves you want to keep, and anything in the drum or racks.
  • Defrost a freezer a day ahead if you can, and towel up the water.
  • Disconnect, or ask. Unplugging is easy. Water lines, drain hoses and especially gas lines are a different job. Ask the company whether it disconnects, or have a plumber or gas technician do it first.
  • Clear the path. Measure doorways and move anything breakable. Fridge doors sometimes have to come off to fit through.
  • Protect the floor. Ask the crew to use an appliance dolly and floor protection on finished floors.

What to ask before you hire

  • Is the price per appliance, or by volume if I add other items?
  • Is refrigerant recovery included, and where does the appliance end up?
  • Do you disconnect water and drain lines? (Gas lines should be capped by a qualified person.)
  • Are there stair or carry-distance charges?
  • Can you take the old one the same trip as my other junk?
