Referral website, not the contractor. How it works
Most junk removal jobs cost about $150 to $500, and the 2026 national average is about $250 a job, according to HireAHelper.
Conroe Junk Pros is a referral website, not a junk removal company. We send your request to one independent local junk removal company. You never pay us; companies we refer you to may pay us for referrals.
A small pickup can start around $75, and a full truckload can reach $800 or more, so your quote depends mostly on volume. These are national ranges from published cost guides, checked in October 2026, not prices from a Conroe company. Pricing and scheduling come from the company we send your request to. Junk removal prices by load size
Most haulers price by the fraction of the truck your junk fills. Two national guides publish load-size ranges:
| Load size | Rough volume | This Old House (2026) | Fixr (2025) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1/8 truck | 2 to 3 cubic yards | $75 to $125 | $75 to $125 |
| 1/4 truck | 3 to 4.5 cubic yards | $125 to $200 | $125 to $175 |
| 1/2 truck | 4.5 to 11 cubic yards | $200 to $400 | $175 to $375 |
| 3/4 truck | 11 to 13 cubic yards | $400 to $600 | $375 to $450 |
| Full truck | 13 to 17 cubic yards | $600 to $800 | $450 to $650 |
Volumes come from This Old House. Fixr measures in cubic feet (60 to 80 for an eighth, up to 350 to 475 for a full load), which works out close to the same sizes. Truck beds aren't standard, so one company's "half load" can be another's "third." Ask how big the truck is.
Size your own pile in two minutes
- Push the junk into one rough pile, or picture it that way.
- Measure length, width and height in feet.
- Multiply the three numbers and divide by 27. That's cubic yards.
- Find the row in the table above.
Example: a pile 8 feet long, 5 feet wide and 4 feet high is 160 cubic feet, or about 6 cubic yards. That lands in the half-truck row. Bulky furniture takes more room on a truck than it looks, because it doesn't stack tight, so round up.
Single-item prices
If you have only one or two things, many companies charge a flat item price or their minimum load. National figures:
| Item | Typical national range | Source | More detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mattress or box spring | $70 to $100 | HireAHelper | Furniture and mattress removal |
| Mattress | $75 to $150 | This Old House | Furniture and mattress removal |
| Couch or sectional | $300 to $375 | HireAHelper | Furniture and mattress removal |
| Bulky furniture | $80 to $400 | This Old House | Furniture and mattress removal |
| One appliance (fridge, washer) | $109 to $244 average; $65 low, $570 high | Thumbtack | Appliance removal |
| One appliance | $77.79 to $259 | Homewyse (May 2026) | Appliance removal |
| Hot tub | $250 to $400 average | Fixr | Hot tub removal |
| Upright piano | $100 to $250 | HireAHelper | |
| Carpet | $75 to $300 | This Old House | Estate cleanouts |
| Building materials | $100 to $800 | This Old House | Construction debris removal |
| Tires | $60 to $90 minimum | Fixr | Disposal guide |
The guides don't always agree, because each uses different data. Treat them as a check on a quote, not a price list.
How we got these numbers
- Sources. Hauling prices come from This Old House, Fixr, HireAHelper, Thumbtack and Homewyse, named in each table. County drop-off fees come from the Montgomery County Precinct 3 fee schedule. Links are in the Sources list at the end of this page.
- Date checked. We opened every source in October 2026. Where a guide shows its own update date, it's in the source list. Fixr's pages were last updated in January 2025, so they're the oldest figures here.
- National, not local. None of these are Conroe prices, and none come from the company we refer you to.
- Why your quote may differ. Truck size, labor time, the weight of the load, stairs and carry distance, and what the hauler pays to dump all change the final number.
What moves the price of junk removal
Volume. The biggest factor. Half a truck costs roughly half of a full one, but the minimum charge means a single small item still costs something.
Weight. Concrete, roofing, dirt, tile and wet carpet are heavy for their size. Some haulers add a surcharge or limit how much of a truck they'll fill with dense material.
Labor and access. Items in a backyard, an attic, a second floor or a tight hallway take longer. A pile already at the curb or in the driveway is the cheapest to load.
Special items. HireAHelper lists refrigerant appliances, tires and paint among items that can carry extra disposal fees, along with very heavy items like concrete and bulky ones like pianos.
Disassembly. Hot tubs, swing sets, sheds and sectionals may need to be cut or taken apart first.
Timing. HireAHelper says expedited pickup may add 10% to 25% to a quote. If you can wait a few days, ask whether a later slot costs less.
Donations and recycling. Items that can be donated or recycled sometimes cost less to deal with than landfill loads. Ask the company how it handles them.
Doing it yourself: Montgomery County drop-off fees
If you have a truck or trailer, the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Residential Recycling Facility at 1122 Pruitt Road in Spring is the county's main public drop-off. It's for Montgomery County residents only, with proof of residency. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed 11:30 to 12:30 for lunch and on county holidays. Fees from its schedule effective October 1, 2025:
| What you bring | County fee |
|---|---|
| Pickup truck load (filled to the sides of the bed) | $30 |
| 6-foot trailer, up to 4 feet high | $50 |
| 12-foot trailer, up to 4 feet high | $120 |
| 20-foot trailer, up to 4 feet high | $200 |
| Furniture or appliance, per piece | $10 to $50 |
| Twin mattress or box spring | $10 each |
| Full, queen or king mattress or box spring | $20 each |
| Passenger tire, off the rim / on the rim | $10 / $20 each |
| TV or monitor | $10 each |
| Branches, shrubs and plants | $20 per truckload |
| Paint and household chemicals (Wednesdays and 3rd Saturday only) | $10 per 5 gallons |
| Minimum fee for anything not listed | $10 |
Is self-hauling cheaper? On fees alone, usually: $30 for a pickup load at the county, against a $75 to $125 minimum at most haulers in the national guides. The trade-off is the truck, the lifting, the drive to Spring and back, and the facility's limits. It takes bricks, concrete, shingles and tile only in small amounts, about a wheelbarrow's worth, in containers. It doesn't take household garbage, dirt, mirrors or windows, propane tanks, or business waste. The full list is in the disposal guide.
Is there free junk removal in Conroe?
Free options exist, but each has limits:
- City bulk pickup. Conroe residents get one scheduled bulk pickup a month through Frontier Waste Solutions, included in city trash service. The city's rules exclude construction debris, TVs, computers and hazardous waste, and you have to get the items to the curb.
- Donation pickup. The Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County ReStore offers free standard pickup of large donations, usually scheduled one to two weeks out. Items need to be in good enough shape to resell.
- Curb giveaways. Usable items listed for free often go fast. Check your HOA's rules on leaving things at the curb.
Paid haulers fill the gap when you need it gone now, can't move it, or have things the city won't take.
What's included in a cheap junk removal price
A low advertised price, like "starting at $99," usually covers a minimum load: about an eighth of a truck. Before you book, ask:
- Is the price for volume or for items? A couch alone may already fill a minimum load.
- Are disposal fees included? HireAHelper notes most haulers fold landfill fees into the quote, but some list them separately.
- What costs extra? Mattresses, tires, refrigerant appliances, stairs and heavy debris are common add-ons.
- What if there's more? Ask how the price changes on site, and agree to the final number before loading starts.
How do big franchise prices compare?
National franchises and local independents each set their own rates. Treat any online price as an estimate until a crew sees the pile. Get a written price from each company you're considering and compare it with the tables above. The junk removal FAQ has more on comparing companies.
How to get an accurate quote
You'll get a closer price if you tell the company:
- What's going: an item list or which rooms
- Your rough volume, using the measuring method above
- Where it sits: curb, garage, backyard, upstairs
- Heavy or special items: appliances, a piano, a hot tub, concrete, tires
- Photos of the pile, taken from a couple of angles
