Referral website, not the contractor. How it works

Hot tub removal in Conroe usually costs a few hundred dollars: the spa is drained, the power cut, and the tub hauled out. To get a price, send a request with the form.

Conroe Junk Pros is a referral website, not a junk removal company. We send your request to one independent local junk removal company. You never pay us; companies we refer you to may pay us for referrals.

Pricing and scheduling come from that company. Ask for the price in writing, including any charge for cutting the tub apart or removing a deck.

Why hot tubs are their own kind of junk job

A hot tub isn't a big piece of furniture. It's a heavy shell on a frame, with pumps, a heater, plumbing and wiring inside, sitting in a backyard that a truck usually can't reach. Fixr notes that hot tubs may need to be broken down for removal, which adds to the cost. The job usually involves:

  • Draining the water, which can take hours.
  • Disconnecting power. The breaker gets shut off, and the wiring is removed or capped.
  • Getting it out. If the tub fits through the side gate on edge, the crew may roll it out on dollies. If not, they cut it into sections with saws.
  • Hauling and disposal. Metal parts may go to a scrap recycler, and the rest goes to a landfill.

In-ground or sunken spas are closer to demolition than junk removal. Tubs with a built-in deck or gazebo add carpentry. Tell the company about either when you ask for a price.

What hot tub removal costs

National guides checked in October 2026:

What Typical national range Source
Removing an old hot tub (average) $250 to $400 Fixr
Hot tub (wide range) $100 to $1,500 HireAHelper
Full junk truck, if the tub is part of a big load $600 to $800 This Old House

The big spread comes from the jobs themselves. A small, drained above-ground tub next to the driveway is at the low end. A large tub behind a fence, set into a deck, still full of water, or wired to a hard-to-reach circuit is at the high end. These are national ranges, not quotes. See the junk removal cost guide for load-size prices.

How to prep for hot tub removal

Ask the company what it expects you to do. Common prep:

  1. Turn off the power at the breaker, and leave it off.
  2. Drain the tub. Most tubs have a drain spigot, or you can use a submersible pump. Ask your city before running treated spa water into a street or storm drain.
  3. Remove the cover and any steps, or ask whether the crew will haul those too.
  4. Clear a path from the tub to where the truck can park: gate, side yard, driveway. Measure the gate.
  5. Move patio furniture, grills and planters out of the way.
  6. Mark sprinkler heads and soft ground the crew should avoid.
  7. Leftover spa chemicals don't go on the junk truck. They're household hazardous waste. The Montgomery County Precinct 3 facility in Spring takes pool and household chemicals on Wednesdays and the third Saturday of the month, for $10 per 5 gallons.

Electrical: shut it off, then ask

The spa's breaker is the part you can safely handle yourself. Taking out a hard-wired circuit, a disconnect box or a GFCI panel is electrical work. Some removal companies cap the wires and leave them safe. Others want an electrician to do it first. Ask before the day of the job, and don't let anyone cut wires that might still be live.

Can I remove a hot tub myself?

You can, but it's a big job. Typical problems:

  • Weight. Even drained, a hot tub is heavy and awkward to carry.
  • Size. Measure the tub against your truck bed. Many need a trailer.
  • Cutting. Breaking down the shell means power saws and fiberglass or acrylic dust. Wear eye, ear and breathing protection.
  • Disposal. Conroe's bulk pickup is for household items too large for the cart, like furniture and appliances, and the city lists no hot tub service. If you cut it up and haul it, the Montgomery County Precinct 3 facility at 1122 Pruitt Road in Spring charges by load: $30 for a pickup truck load and $50 to $200 for trailer loads up to 4 feet high. It's for Montgomery County residents with proof of residency.

For most people, the cost of a removal crew is worth skipping the saw work and the trailer rental.

After the tub is gone

  • The pad. A concrete pad usually stays. Breaking it up and hauling concrete is a separate, heavier job. Ask for that price separately if you want it gone.
  • The wiring. Make sure it's capped or removed and the breaker is labeled.
  • The yard. Expect some wear where the crew rolled the tub out.

What to ask before you hire

  • Is the price for the whole job, including cutting, hauling and disposal?
  • Do I need to drain it and shut off the power first?
  • Who disconnects the wiring?
  • Will you remove the steps, cover, deck or gazebo, and for how much?
  • How will you protect my lawn, fence and gate?

Common questions

How much does hot tub removal cost?

Fixr puts the average cost to remove an old hot tub at about $250 to $400, depending on size, location and complications. HireAHelper gives a much wider range, $100 to $1,500. In-ground or built-in spas, decks around the tub, and tight backyard access push the price up. The company we refer you to sets its own price.

Can I take a hot tub to the dump?

Not in one piece in a regular truck. Many tubs need a trailer, and the City of Conroe describes bulk service as appliances, furniture and other large household items, so ask Frontier before setting a spa at the curb. If you cut it up yourself, the county Precinct 3 facility charges by the load, and it's for Montgomery County residents only.

Do I need to drain it before the crew comes?

Usually, yes. Ask the company. Most want the tub drained and the power shut off at the breaker before they arrive. Draining can take several hours, so start the day before.

Who disconnects the electrical?

Turn the spa off at its breaker. Removing the wiring, the disconnect box or a hard-wired circuit is electrical work. Ask the removal company whether it handles that, or hire an electrician first.
